50 – 30 Challenge: What Works Toolkit

The 50 – 30 Challenge is a joint initiative between the Government of Canada, businesses, and diversity organizations, aimed at increasing representation in leadership. It encourages organizations to strive toward two key goals: achieving gender parity (50% women and/or non-binary people) and 30% representation from equity-deserving groups in boardrooms and senior management. These groups include Racialized individuals, Black and/or People of Colour, People with disabilities (including invisible and episodic), 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and Indigenous Peoples.

Open to businesses of all sizes, nonprofits, post-secondary institutions, and more, the Challenge offers flexible pathways for organizations to participate in ways that reflect their unique structures. At its heart, the 50 – 30 Challenge is about building inclusive workplaces, improving access to opportunities, and recognizing that stronger representation leads to greater innovation, better services, and long-term success for all.

The What Works Toolkit is an online toolkit, designed for Canadian organizations looking to adopt equity and diversity initiatives.
